The journey continues

Last time I posted, in May, I mentioned about wanting to become a writer. Well, just to clarify, I already am a writer. I have this blog, even if I don't keep up with it. I have journal upon journal full of entries dating back to my teens. I even have several started books. I AM a writer. However, I am NOT published and I have not really shared much of my writing with anyone, except for here in this blog.

So, that said, I have decided to continue this journey that I have been dreaming about since I was a kid. I am determined to become a published author. Now comes the hard work...and I don't mean writing. I mean deciding on what genre of writing and which topic to tackle. UGH! Too many decisions! Well, one friend mentioned that I should begin by just posting more frequently on here. She is wise. So hopefully you don't get too sick of me...and even more hopefully, you will share my posts with those you know who may benefit from what I write or who may be entertained by it!

My intentions here are to get a little more personal with y'all about my experiences of the past few years but also to be a little bit lighter and share some of my travelling adventures with you! I have always loved traveling but over the past four years, I have been blessed to go on some amazing road trips, the last few completely alone! I want y'all to actually get a glimpse into "THE WINDOW TO MY MIND", as the blog title implies. While some may be frightened, it is not nearly as horrible as one might think (lol). So, come along on this journey that has been in the planning phase for way too long...but is finally underway!

Great Lakes Tour - Part 3

Welcome back to the final leg of our Great Lakes tour of 2018!  It has been such a blast to share these great vacation memories with everyone but I do have a disclaimer to add to this trip, and I probably should have included it in the other two posts as well. I may have cast Maria in a less than agreeable light during this trip. However, there was a good reason for it, even though at that time I only had slight suspicions. Maria was about two months pregnant with Giovanni at this time and was not feeling well at all, but was also trying to not let on about her "condition". So, with hindsight, I understand her crankiness. A side note to that disclaimer is that Ben is not mad in all of the pictures, he just tries intentionally to not smile in any picture. But no matter what, I still really enjoyed being able to take such a memorable trip with both of my youngest babies! So, lets wrap this trip up, shall we? Day 5: We packed up and began heading south through Ontario towards Ni...

Depression...sucks.

I know I haven't really been super good at this whole transparency thing even though that was the initial purpose of this blog. For that I apologize and I am going to try to make up for at least a little of the lost time by revealing a secret that not many people know. Here goes...I suffer from depression.  I don't mean I have down days sometimes. I mean I am on two different anti-depressants and an anxiety medicine. I mean I have to force myself out of bed a lot of mornings and plaster on a somewhat convincing smile for the rest of the world. I mean if I had the option, I would much prefer to stay at home, all by myself, in bed all day. And that is while I am on my medicine.  A few years ago, I began counseling and had to do some serious evaluations of myself during that time. I also had to make some serious confessions to myself. For instance, I had to admit that I had been in an abusive relationship: physically, emotionally, and sexually. I also had to admit that I wa...

Josiah's Story

Josiah is the child that I always thought of as the one that would be smart enough to stay out of trouble. The one that would rise above the peer pressure. The one that would see the temptation and proceed to explain why there was no need for it. Not that I thought my other children would, but Anna is, well, Anna. Maria loves to do things extravagantly and dramatically. And well, Ben is a follower, kinda the typical baby. So I always thought I would need to try extra hard with the younger ones. Don't get me wrong, I had the "say no to drugs" talk several times with Josiah already. And the "casual" conversations on the way to school about smoking or drinking or such. So, imagine my surprise and dismay when I found out that he, Josiah, was smoking marijuana with his friends. I still can't believe that he would be so...so...ugh! I don't even know what. Hard-headed? Blind? Influenced? Hypocritical? I don't know, all of these but definitely a lot more ...
